Subject:   Jesus Abbey Newsletter- January, 2008

Message:   January, 2008

Dear Friends,

Greetings to all of our friends in this new year 2008!
We pray that the grace and peace from our heavenly Father God and Jesus Christ our Lord be with you all.

Among many guests last December, there were Vietnamese students who are presently studying at Korea University. Brother Sophos brought them here. They seemed to be very good students who will eventually do something important for their country. Though they were non-believers and the Abbey was unfamiliar to them, some of them shared their thanks and expressed how much they appreciated our hospitality during our Saturday service. We wished there had been more time to get to know one another better.

Another impressive visitor was Chaplain Martin Cho. He is the son to Rev. Cho, Byung-Ho who used to live at Jesus Abbey. It has been many years since we saw Chaplain Martin. He is now serving the Lord as a chaplain for the U.S. military officers. Sister Yancey went to the same elementary school at the village with him. They chatted together about those good old days at the school. Chaplain Martin shared his precious testimony and message with us.

The 54th Class of Postulants finished their 3-month training and left the Abbey at the beginning of December. They were warmly received into the Alumni group and some of them came back to celebrate Christmas with us.

Thanks to your love and prayers, Sister Jane has been so faithful with her office work, attending two prayers and one service a day, and receiving guests warmly into her home. She will turn 87 this February but she is working as many hours as young people do. She is ever setting such a remarkable example of following the Lord. Please keep her health in your prayers.

The Christmas gifts presented by Sister Jane gave us so much joy and our hearts were filled with gratitude. We give all our praises to God for the most remarkable gift, Jesus our Lord, that God has given to all mankind.

Pastor Chun, Kook-Jae, Director of Institute of Light Finders has invited the Abbey kids to his camps this winter. He has been very considerate and generous to receive our children at his camps during each vacation for the last several years.

On December 23, 2007, Bishop Kwon, Hee-Yon came to the Abbey to perform our Sunday morning service and Confirmation ceremony.

We have a new family that have recently joined us as novices. Joseph and Sarah Baek and their baby Hyun-Suh. Tyrsah Park has just finished her 2nd-year novice training and Topaz Ahn, 1st-year novice training. We are very thankful for their service while they were with us.

Thanks to the wood boiler in the building Nazareth, we feel so warm during this winter. Nazareth has the main common room and some guest rooms. We have found that it is a painstaking job to pick up the woods for this boiler out on the hills. When there is much snow on the ground we have to buy truckful of woods. However, farmers need snow for crops. We get concerned when there is a dry-weather warning. We need to pray about the unusual changes of weather that are caused by the greed and sins of the world.

We pray for a victorious year for all of you! Shalom.

Love and thanks,
Jesus Abbey Family
